- The Problem
- The Solution
Soil health & taking farm risks can be difficult.
In the field & on the bottom line.
Every decision you make is critical. From equipment changes, cover crop species, timing, & key management decisions – you want to get it right the first time.
When farmers have a negative experience adopting a practice, they are highly unlikely to try that practice again. At Farm Advisor we solve this problem by pairing you with a farmer mentor who has already spent decades implementing these same conservation and soil-health practices & changes on their own farms – helping you avoid mistakes & pitfalls so you can fast-track your own success, profitability, and resiliency.
A community you can count on.

The overarching goal of the program is to get to scale, measured in numbers of acres with soil health practices.
Results
Through farmer led & farmer driven education, outreach, and mentoring, we achieve the following:
- Increased adoption of soil health practices
- Easing practice adoption by flattening the learning curve
- Increase effectiveness of money directed to conservation programs
- Practice retention after financial program assistance (from other programs) ends
- Facilitating growth of conservation-focused networks to support and encourage farmer participants
- Increase of ecosystem services associated with practice adoption, including nutrient and sediment load reductions to surface waters, greenhouse gas reduction, increased soil carbon, and protection of wildlife species

Next Steps
FarmAdvisor is being developed in a “crawl-walk-run” model. From the outset, the program is managed administratively by Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative (CCSI). The program has financial support from the Indiana Corn Marketing Council / Indiana Soybean Alliance, the Indiana Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and donations from farmer-members, and non-operating landowners of the group.
